Introduction and Definition of Hair Transplants:
After modern hair transplantation techniques began in Japan in the 1930s and the first hair transplant procedure was performed in New York in 1952, this cosmetic treatment remained limited to males.
However, due to its significant and ongoing success, and its proven effectiveness as an ideal and definitive solution for baldness and hair loss problems – especially after the introduction of the FUT technique in 1995 – hair transplantation procedures began to spread more widely at the beginning of this century.
Turkey was among the pioneering countries in this field, and its doctors developed specialized techniques, leading to a surge in women’s hair transplant procedures in Turkey at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century.
So, what is hair transplantation?
Hair transplantation is a cosmetic surgery that involves transferring healthy hair, harvested from the back or sides of the scalp, to the balding area. This hair will continue to grow as if it were still in its original location. In other words, it will continue to exhibit the same characteristics as the hair extracted from the donor area.
Who are the Women Eligible for Hair Transplant Surgery?
To be eligible for a hair transplant, a woman must meet several conditions, the most important of which are:
- She must be in good health, and the surgery will not negatively affect her, such as having no contraindications to anesthesia.
- Her hair loss must have stabilized at a certain level (the procedure is not permitted if hair loss is still ongoing).
- She should also have dense donor areas with hair on the back and sides of her head.
How is Female Hair Transplantation Performed?
Here are all the steps of the hair transplantation process for women:
1- Initial Agreement:
After the woman chooses a hair transplant centre, the necessary medical examinations are conducted. She answers questions about her hair condition and medical history to determine if she is a suitable candidate for the surgery.
If the initial reports are positive, the hair transplant surgeon will perform some final examinations, such as combing and styling the hair in different directions to highlight the bald or thinning areas.
Afterward, the doctor designs the final results in consultation with the patient, based on her preferences.
2- Preparations and Anesthesia:
On the day of the procedure, after preparations and hair cutting (if necessary), the next step is to anesthetize the donor scalp.
Hair transplantation in Turkey for women uses a fast-acting local anesthetic that is painless.
* In rare cases, general anesthesia may be required.
3- Designing and Drawing the Hairline:
The hairlines, agreed upon beforehand between the patient and the doctor, are finalized to determine the desired shape. These are lines that mark the hair follicle extraction site and the location of the new hair follicle.
4- Hair Follicle Extraction:
Hair follicles are extracted from the donor areas (back and sides of the head) using a custom, precise device.
5- Sorting and Sterilizing the Extracted Follicles:
While the patient rests briefly and eats a healthy meal, the medical team sorts and cleans the extracted hair follicles to prepare them for the next stage.
6- Perforating the Recipient Area and Implanting the Hair Follicles:
Here we have two cases:
- Case 1: If the hair transplant is performed using traditional FUE techniques, the patient undergoes further anesthesia, and the procedure begins by creating small holes in the target area for hair transplantation. The extracted and sterilized hair is then implanted in its new location.
- Case 2: Hair transplantation using the DHI technique. In this case, the perforation stage is skipped, as the DHI technique combines it with hair implantation in a single stage.
Finally, the scalp will be cleaned of any remaining surgical debris. The hair transplant procedure is now complete.
You can find video explanations of the hair transplant stages inside Camilia Clinic.
Techniques Used for Female Hair Transplant in Turkey:
Several FUe and U-FUE hair transplant approaches are used in Turkey, depending on each woman’s individual case. Some of the most important of these approaches are:
FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Technique:
Until a few years ago, this traditional FUE method was the most common technique used for both men and women; it’s still the most suitable for those seeking hair transplantation in Turkey at an affordable price.
Disadvantages: Because it involves a blade, shaving the hair is necessary. Additionally, the recovery period is longer than with modern methods.
Sapphire FUE Technique:
This technique is excellent for covering extensive areas of scalp baldness, as it utilizes an ultra-fine sapphire tip to create precise punctures.
The Sapphire FUE hair transplantation typically leaves no visible scars; another advantage is the speed of recovery.
However, there are two minor drawbacks:
- A higher cost compared to the traditional Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique.
- Additionally, head shaving is preferred (it’s considered medically safer due to its blade-like tip), which most women don’t like; they often opt for unshaven hair transplants.
Percutan FUE Technique:
This technique is considered one of the most precise hair transplant methods and is used to cover large bald areas.
Thanks to its tip, which uses a very fine needle to create microscopic holes for implanting hair follicles, this technique leaves no scars or marks after surgery, significantly speeding up recovery.
Another advantage is that if the number of hair follicles required for transplantation is less than 3500, it is a safe method for unshaven hair transplants.
Drawbacks: The Percutan FUE hair transplant surgery costs more than other techniques in Turkey.
Therefore, for women, we prefer the Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) technique, as it will give the same results at a lower cost.
DHI Technique:
This technique is currently the most requested and widely used, accounting for over 90% of women’s hair transplant procedures in Turkey. This is due to its numerous advantages, most notably:
- It does not require head shaving.
- It’s suitable for all types of baldness (which we will discuss later).
- The DHI approach is considered a completely safe technique.
- The patient recovers quickly, within just a few days.
Disadvantages: There are no known disadvantages to the Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) technique.
U-FUE (Unshaven/Undetectable FUE) Female Hair Transplants in Turkey:
This is a modern hair transplantation method that has gained significant popularity in recent years, especially among women, thanks to its ability to reduce the psychological stress associated with shaving hair.
U-FUE is typically performed for a forehead hair transplant, to fill gaps in thinning hair, or to restore the hairline.
So, how are hair transplants without shaving performed for women in Turkey?
The procedure involves moisturizing and combing the hair in the recipient area to expose the gaps in the scalp.
Sterile hair follicles, previously extracted from donor areas, are then implanted into these gaps.
An unshaven hair transplant requires a high level of expertise and meticulous care from the doctor, as it is essential for achieving a harmonious appearance and natural hair distribution.
For hair transplantation without shaving, the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique using the Choi pen is the most suitable.
*Note: One of the most important conditions for undetectable FUE is that the number of follicles required for transplantation does not exceed a certain limit (usually 3500 follicles or less). Otherwise, head shaving will become necessary.
Forehead/Hairline Hair Transplant with Hair Thickening (video):
The hairline at the front of a woman’s scalp begins to recede, and she may experience hair loss in this area due to aging or other reasons, such as:
- Genetic factors.
- Medical conditions such as Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia (FFA).
- Psychological and emotional stress.
- Fatigue and pulling on the hair, a condition known as Traction Alopecia.
- Hair loss at the front of the scalp in women can also result from pregnancy.
Fortunately, hair transplantation offers a definitive solution for women in these situations, eliminating the need for temporary and ineffective remedies.
The goal of the forehead hair transplant is to restore the hairline to its natural shape. It can even be used to thicken hair and create a new design (Front Hairline Design), making the area appear fuller than ever before.
Hairline transplantation in Turkey is a relatively quick surgery compared to other hair transplant surgeries. You can watch the following video about female hairline transplantation with hair thickening at Camilia Clinic in Istanbul, Turkey.

Cost of Hair Transplant in Turkey for Women 2026:
The average cost of women’s hair transplantation in Turkey in 2026, across most clinics and hospitals, was $1,850 USD, with a minimum of $1,600 USD and a maximum of $2,100 USD.
This is because the procedure requires more effort, care, and expertise, as women’s hair is thinner, more delicate, and more prone to falling out. Additionally, women generally have lower hair density in the donor areas compared to men.
Therefore, female hair transplantation requires a highly experienced surgeon and a qualified team, which is the primary reason for its higher cost compared to male hair transplantation.
Except for the Percutan technique, the cost of women’s hair transplantation in Turkey is not based on the number of transplanted follicles, as for men. Instead, the doctors’ and team’s fees (based on their local and international reputation) are the main factors determining the price.

Answering Some Women’s Questions About Hair Transplants:
The expert team at Camilia Clinic will answer some of the most common questions regarding women’s hair transplants in Turkey.
The average procedure time is 6 hours; as frontal hair transplantation takes about 4 hours, while hair transplantation in large bald areas, which involves transplanting a large number of follicles, may take up to 8 hours.
The last hair wash will be on the third day after the procedure. Therefore, foreigners coming to Turkey should stay for four days: one day before the procedure and two days after.
Any hair transplant may fail in one of the following cases:
First: Taking the risk and proceeding with a hair transplant while experiencing severe hair loss, as mentioned previously.
In this case, you should inform your hair transplant surgeon about this during your initial consultation. It is their medical and professional duty to postpone the procedure until your condition improves and your hair loss significantly decreases.
Second: Your donor area does not have enough hair for the operation, meaning you are not a suitable candidate for a hair transplant.
If you are not a candidate for this cosmetic procedure, whatever the reasons, try to accept it. A failed hair transplant is far worse than its adverse effects or even the effects of hair loss.
What you need to know is that the number of extracted follicles is the same as the number transplanted, no more. A low hair density in the donor areas leads to bald patches in both the donor and recipient areas.
As you’ve seen, medical ethics play a major role. At Camilia Clinic, we don’t perform procedures in such cases because our goal is the final results of all cosmetic surgeries.
Third: The lack of experience of the hair transplantation specialist team.
For example, the specialist must be knowledgeable of how to align the angle of hair follicle implantation with the angle of natural hair growth.
Furthermore, hair transplant specialists must choose the most suitable technique for your specific case, based on your hair type and scalp condition.
Regarding the side effects of hair transplantation:
They are generally rare and temporary; they resolve quickly, especially since the Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique has replaced the Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) technique.
Here are some potential side effects you should be aware of before undergoing this surgery:
1. Swelling of the forehead, scalp, or around the eyes: This is a normal reaction to the procedure and usually peaks on the third or fourth day.
Applying cold compresses or taking prescribed medications can help reduce swelling and alleviate pain.
2. Itching or mild discomfort in the donor and recipient areas.
This is a sign that the healing process has begun. It is important to resist the urge to scratch or rub the transplanted area to prevent any damage.
At Camilia Clinic, we will provide you with special shampoos and washes to relieve itching and promote healing.
3. Some patients may experience slight bleeding or scabbing in the donor and recipient areas.
This is a normal part of the healing process and nothing to worry about. It is important to follow the post-operative care instructions provided by the hair transplant center to ensure complete healing and minimize any potential complications.
4. In rare cases, patients may experience temporary hair loss around the transplanted area.
This type of hair loss is called shock loss.
This may be alarming, but it is a normal part of the hair growth cycle and nothing to worry about in the long run. The transplanted hair follicles will continue to grow and produce new hair over time.
It is essential to remember that these temporary side effects are a small price to pay for the long-term benefits of hair transplantation.
As for the risks of hair transplantation:
The word “risks” is misleading. If hair transplantation involved any risks, it wouldn’t be the leading cosmetic procedure, and hundreds of thousands of people wouldn’t have opted for it.
According to recent statistics, the success rate of women’s hair transplants in Turkey exceeds 88% (the 12% failure rate was explained in our answer to the previous question).
As for the DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) technique using the Choi pen, its success rate has reached 100%.
There are several reasons, including:
1- The extensive and internationally recognized expertise of Turkish surgeons and the presence of leading centers, resulting in excellent outcomes.
2- Using and developing modern technologies, some of which are not available in many other countries.
Technological advancements have made hair transplant procedures safer and more effective.
3- Comprehensive pre- and post-operative medical care, in addition to free accompanying services.
4- Medical tourism packages offered by centers to patients after surgery.
5- And, of course, reasonable and competitive prices, unlike those in other countries.
